Hi Chris Garrett

I have been following your articles in Compute! I tried the online game search from the February issue and when I run it, it just hangs at Connecting… The other day I finished typing in the Basic HTML browser from the March issue and have the same Connecting issue. I am able to use the BBS software from the very second to connect to bbses so I am not sure what I am missing your programs.

For the html program, I have tried troubleshooting and see that it is stuck at the a loop at line 335 IF (S AND 8)=0 THEN GOTO 330

(S AND 8) seem to always be 0

I am very excited to get this to work. I have included a screenshot of my modem settings. Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Chris

C64U online

Hi All!!

I am a Tech Director by day; A husband, father and 8-bit enthusiast all day and night :)

If memory serves, my first system was a Colecovision. I loved that console :)

A little later on I received my first C64 as a gift in the 80s. Saved up for a 1571 and began dabbling in basic programming and playing games. Several years ago, I found my c64 at my parents house so I started to get back c64 world. I have been all over the interwebs absorbing all I can about the C64.

Most recently, my C64U arrived and I have been impressed with the machine and especially with the online capabilities. I never had a modem for my original c64U so I am not just starting to dial into the BBSes  and learning more about what I can do online with the C64U.

Other hobbies include golfing, scuba diving, gaming, model making to name a few.

Looking forward to more 8bit adventures!!

Chris

Atari ST now has STOS BASIC. How it works is your code is tokenised then squirted over to the emulator on a virtual .ST disk before being launched in the interpreter. That means you can download the disk from the IDE file menu to run on your desktop emulator or real ST :)

Hi @Chris, great work on the IDE!!
Well build and lots of Computer to choose from.

Question: Your message says;
"Note: This is a beta version of the IDE. Please report any issues you find."

What is the right place to report these? Is that in this General Chat of the community or is there another place for that?

Issue of the day is the all Commodore variants are down ' Platform not found C128'.
Yesterday it was all working fine!

(There are some others I am happy to share but first want to make sure what is the right place).

Keep up the good work!! (-8

Four 16-bit systems are now ready to test out in the IDE 🥳

As usual, I have added a selection of compiler options and a smattering of code examples - please let me know if they work for you!

I have tried to drag and drop slicks.d64 into the C64 Emulator. I keep getting "You can't upload files of this type". I'm using Firefox on Ubuntu, I have also tried on Windows and Firefox. Can I get some help, please?

And because I know TRSE is a lot to take in for new folks, I've built a searchable docs site at https://docs.retrogamecoders.com/

and will be adding to it incrementally

I managed to get TRSE working in the web-based retro IDE

Currently available for:

  • Amstrad

  • Apple IIe

  • Commodore Vic 20, PET, C64

  • MSX,

  • and BBC

I am working on getting more available but some are outputting binaries that the embedded emulators do not like so I might have to do some executable conversion or disk creation before they run

As an example, here is the Matrix effect demo on the C64

(Shared projects import a copy of the files into your web browser so feel free to edit the code, the original remains safe!)

Some large updates, most notably right now is I am using Raylib for cross-platform graphics.

Yep, full PETSCII :D

Working on sprites and such, I just have to be careful when adding commands/syntax as I know what it is like when I start building on a language or interpreter and things change from under me :)
