The big news this week is the Atari 800XL full-size emulation with working keyboard and a cartridge slot. People who have had hands-on experience with it claim it doesn't just dump ROMs but reads directly from the cartridge. Could that mean non-standard carts will still work?

Yeah, I am a collector of original hardware, and have done my own trash-to-treasure work with varying levels of success, but I do like these things too. I love the C64 "maxi" as we colloquially refer to it, and I think for many people it is the better route than playing eBay roulette with machines that might not have been powered up in decades.

That said, things like MiSTer are getting better all the time. Look at the cores just in this week's issue. Minus the authentic-looking case and keyboard, perhaps an FPGA machine is a better buy? What do you think?

Speaking of checking your opinion, I thought I would put into more words my position on AI in retro. Do tell me your take on that also!

How Worth-A-Watch is Made

My feed readers are constantly scouring an ever-growing list of the best blogs, online magazines, communities and YouTube channels for the latest news. I then hand-pick stories and add my thoughts, so nothing goes in unless I am sure it is worth your time.

Timestamps jump to the moment a story starts and written stories link to the original, so the traffic goes to the people who did the work.
