Where I draw the line with AI. How about you?

I'd really love to get your opinion on this!

I am also not totally against AI. The eventual outcome is only as good as the person giving the instructions. I think you need a good level of understanding of how to code the machine you are trying to make a game for (Z80 ASM for the Spectrum as an example). I am also OK with programmers who are creating tools for the PC using AI to assist with their projects. Getting the AI to do testing, debugging and some of the more menial task speeds up progress massively. I am against the huge amount of slop that is being released on all platforms. Slop made by somebody who asks their preferred AI to create a game based on some vague instructions. Sure it creates a game and I am sure they are chuffed to bits, but in reality it is no better than a poor type-in game from the 1980s.

This debate is being argued in every retro forum for every platform but I say

                                                                      STAINS

Stop The Artificial Intelligence Needless Slop.

I don't think I'd ever enjoy a movie or TV programme made with AI. For example, the latest Antman film, while not AI, is a good example of a 100% artificial experience. All cgi. No human element, lack of humour, just noise and a one dimensional experience. In contrast the first couple of films I loved. They had something grounded in their portrayal of the comic book universe, and didn't suffer from the criticisms listed.

This is my view for many creative areas where AI has got it's tentacles into.

But I think I share similar views about when and where AI is a useful tool and I don't begrudge other people using it, in whatever capacity that is.

Two observations of the world around AI right now.

1) it seems you have to be in one of the two camps. Love it or hate it. Seems no room for those that are neither.

2) a lot of people are creating low effort, unrefined software. If time and effort put in they could becone great things, but right now we see a lot quickly produced software, pushed out and abandoned a second later because the AI author has moved onto the next thing.

The latter will pass in time, but I think point 1 is only going to get worse and I don't know if it will ever be resolved.

Andy H You might have seen a big youtuber is attempting a "movie or TV programme made with AI" and the reaction has been ... not good.

Andy H

I did see. I wonder if he's doing a deliberate rage bait video though as he highlights all the flaws and problems and it's very wierd, like the cartoon sequence because couldn't render it normally, and the zero human expressions and deliberate wooden acting, and let's not mention the dialogue.

I'm expecting a gotcha video, isn't Ai rubbish for this right now reveal.

Andy H I don't know, didn't seem to be doing it with a wink, seemed sincere. Perhaps his illness impacted his judgement?
