What's on my bench right now

Currently in the "actively fixing" portion of the vintage computer pile

  1. An Amstrad NC100 that I repaired the DC jack and needs just a replacement screen ribbon cable I hope, but I managed to get perhaps a working screen assembly from a charity shop
  2. My ZX81 with upgraded AV out and just hopefully needs a new keyboard membrane (a super common fault)
  3. Two Amstrad CPC 464, one which was my previously working machine that needed a DC jack repair and after trying to get the M4 Board working now still will not respond to keyboard, and an allegedly working main board that shows corrupted screen on bootup. I've bought some ROMs and RAMs to further diagnose and fortunately it turns out my scope does work on uk electricity :)

Do you have a YouTube channel? Its always interesting to watch this kind of repair.

Matt Armstrong I do though one mean comment can throw me off for weeks and months. I need to grow a thicker skin :)

Chris Garrett I have found your channel and subscribed. I promise no mean comments😀

Chris Garrett

Matt Armstrong I am told that even mean comments are "engagement" and that I should be happy to receive them, but thank you :D

Update, one working Amstrad NC100 and one working Amstrad CPC 464 🥳

The Amstrad is not reading the keyboard or joystick at all and makes no noises (I believe the diagnostic rom should at least beep) which makes me think the problem is the AY chip so I desoldered and socketed it and placed an order on ebay even though I think I have a dead Spectrum 128+2 board somewhere that has a potentially working chip still in place.

You need to stop and tidy your bench 😆😜

Matt Armstrong and that is the heavily staged angle, you should see it in a wider view 🫣
