Howdy!
My name's Kurt. My first exposure to micro computers was at the local Radio Shack when I was a Sophomore or Junior in highschool. I use to go down there after school and change some of the programs running on the demo model I. Star Trek, ot Liza, what ever they had running that I could get into.
My parents got me a VIC 20 The Christmas of my Sophomore year in college. I upgraded that to a C64 a couple of years later when the price dropped a bit to around $375 at the local Service Merchandise. I lent it to a friend while I was finishing up my BSCS at the local state University. I never saw it again.
The reboot of Commodore has me all giddy waiting for the new C64 Ultimate to show up at my door. So much so that I've talked my 5 kids, all grown adults now, into forming a demo crew to find out what that's all about.
The current development environment is a couple of Mac's running Vice. Native development is done in TMP and Vision Basic the cross platform tools include KickAssembler, Albert for graphics, SID Factory II for the music, and I just added TRSE tonight. That's what drove me here, actually. The vast majority of my undergraduate work was done in Turbo Pascal, including a senior reading class in computer graphics, so I expect it to be a good fit for me.
I'm working on several different things at the moment: A raspberry pi based math co-processor cartridge, a port of the Star Trek game that's been floating around since 1977. I started it on the VIC-20, but never got a chance to finish it. Finally the demo project. If anybody can help me figure out how to get a picture from a digital camera in PNG format into a PNG file that Albert can convert, I could really use the help. I've tried using imagemagick to scale and change the color space to meet Albert's supposed requirements. Magick appears to work, but Albert still doesn't recognize the file. If TRSE could help, and I have to do some coding, that's fine too.
This is getting long so I'm gonna stop here. Can't wait to get to know everyone.
Star Trek
Nice! I used to just do 10 PRINT "CHRIS IS COOL! "; 20 GOTO 10 ;)
C64 Ultimate
Love my gideon ultimate main board, even if I did fry the user port by putting my diy electronics expansion on upside down (those blue adapters really need a key nub to stop them going on the wrong way!
Vision Basic
I have it and think it's great but I can't code in 40 columns as well as I can cross compiling/assembling so that is a me problem not the software :)
PNG format into a PNG file that Albert can convert
Probably can help here but I am not familiar with Albert, I will do some googling!
The IBM PC platform (DOSBox) in the IDE has Turbo Pascal btw ;)
